Pickleball Gains Popularity Across Central Massachusetts

“The fast-growing sport combines elements of tennis, badminton and ping-pong. Those who play pickleball locally are looking for more places to play in the city.”

“The USA Pickleball Association estimates over 400,000 people actively play pickleball in all 50 states.

In addition to the Greendale YMCA in Worcester, pickleball is played at several other locations in Central Massachusetts, according to the USAPA.

They include the Mount Wachusett Community College Fitness and Wellness Center in Gardner; the tennis courts at Doyle Field in Leominster and courts in Northboro; at the Shrewsbury Athletic Club, and the Boroughs YMCA in Westboro.

A pickleball court is the same size as a doubles badminton court, and measures 20 feet by 44 feet.”
