Weather policy: Camp Boroughs is an outdoors camp. Campers will spend most of the day outside. On extremely hot days we spend some extra time inside. Parents should be prepared for their children to be outside most of the day.
Bathroom Policy: We understand that every child develops life skills at different times. Summer camp is a great place where campers of all ages learn to be more independent. In order to ensure the best camp experience for our 3/4 year old campers, they must be potty trained to come to camp. They must also be able to change out of their bathing suits by themselves. Our staff can provide verbal support / coaching to help children in these situations, but they should come to camp knowing how to do these tasks.
YMCA Camp Boroughs is in accordance with the provisions of Ch. 111, sections 3 & 127A of the general laws, and regulations established by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.

Our Leader In Training (LIT) Program is designed as an opportunity to build leadership skills in our teens. This program is designed for pre-teens interested in working on their leadership skills. Our Counselor In Training (CIT) Program is designed as an opportunity for teens interested in becoming a camp counselor one day! This program runs in multiple 2-week Monday-Friday sessions. Their first CIT session will encompass their initial CIT training period where they will go through a curriculum designed to teach them camp counselor skills such as: facilitating games, behavior management, supervision expectations, and more! Once completing their first CIT training session, CIT's are able to sign up for any following CIT session to get hands on experience directly working with the younger age groups to put the skills that they learned into practice. CIT's can earn badges for each age group that they work with over their time in the CIT program. For each additional session that a CIT signs up for, they will get a 2-week experience in different age groups.
We highly recommend for CIT's to not just register for the initial training session, but to sign up for multiple sessions where there can collect all of their badges and gain hands on experience with each age group. This will prepare them to be the most confident and well-prepared for when they apply for the Volunteer Counselor role once they turn 15 years old, and apply to be a camp counselor at 16 years old.

Safety, Staff Training, and Guidelines
We prioritize the health, safety, and overall well-being of all campers and staff. If your child requires medication during the camp day, such as an Epi-Pen, an inhaler, or medication for chronic health condition, we have strict protocols in place to ensure it’s administered safely.

Safety Around Water
For more than 160 years, the YMCA has nurtured potential and united communities across America to create lasting, meaningful change. One of the most effective ways to accomplish this is to teach youth, teens, and adults to swim, so they can stay safe around water and learn the skills they need to make swimming a lifelong pursuit for staying healthy. Y swim instructors are nationally certified. Their training includes CPR, AED, First Aid and Oxygen Administration. Swim lessons provide important life skills that could save a life and will benefit students for a lifetime.
Learn, Grow, Thrive
What does it mean to learn, grow, and thrive? The YMCA of Central Massachusetts does more than just watch children; we create an environment that is enriching and aids in the development of the children we serve daily whether before, during, or after school, and throughout the summer.
