A Stunning Lakeside Setting
Our Lake Manchaug Day camp spans more than 15 acres of scenic, natural beauty on the lake's shores, providing the perfect setting for a summer of discovery. The camp includes a variety of well-equipped facilities to support a wide range of activities. Our sprawling open fields are perfect for high-energy group games, tag, and sports. The basketball court offers a space for friendly competition and skill development. Three dedicated activity cabins provide a comfortable indoor space for arts and crafts, science experiments, and shelter during inclement weather.
The crown jewel of Camp Blanchard is our stunning waterfront. The calm, clear waters invite campers to cool off, learn water safety, and enjoy the simple pleasure of swimming on a hot summer day. The natural environment surrounding the camp transforms the outdoors into a living classroom where campers can learn about environmental stewardship and the wonders of the natural world.
Age-Specific Camper Groups
Our camp welcomes children ages seven and up, with age-appropriate activities to meet the social, emotional, and physical needs of different age brackets. We focus on exploration, building foundational social skills, and trying new things in a highly supportive environment for younger campers. As campers grow older, the activities at the YMCA sports and recreation camp become more complex and challenging. Middle-grade campers are given more autonomy and are encouraged to take on leadership roles within their peer groups. Team-building exercises require deeper critical thinking, and sports and games become slightly more competitive while still emphasizing sportsmanship.
What a Day at Camp Blanchard Looks Like
Structure and routine are just as important as free play when it comes to creating a successful camp environment. A typical day at Camp Blanchard is carefully balanced to provide a mix of high-energy activities, creative expression, and moments of relaxation.
Mornings
As campers arrive, they dive into free play or a structured morning activity, allowing them to wake up, socialize, and transition into the camp mindset. This is followed by our energetic opening ceremonies, where the entire camp gathers to celebrate the start of the day, review the schedule, share announcements, and build camp spirit with songs and cheers.
Following the opening ceremonies, campers break into their groups and rotate through a dynamic schedule of activities that might include:
- Swimming
- Physical activity in the open field
- Arts and crafts
Afternoon
After a lunch break with friends in the fresh air, the afternoon brings new adventures. Campers might engage in STEM activities, dive into a good book during reading time, or participate in exciting boating activities. As the day winds down, the camp gathers once again for end-of-the-day announcements. We celebrate the day's achievements, recognize campers who demonstrate core values like caring and respect, and prepare for dismissal.

After opening ceremonies campers swim, play various physical activities, participate in arts and crafts, read, and throughout the week also participate in STEM activities and boating. Following activities, campers meet for end-of-the-day announcements before boarding buses or going to parent pick up at camp. At pickup, campers will either participate in free play or a structured game.
8. What are the counselors like?
In hiring our staff we look for candidates who enjoy being around children, think outside of the box, and look for a variety of ways to have fun. Our counselors are personable and kind, and strive to make connections between campers. Staff attend training which includes planning activities, child protection, behavior management and an in-depth training on safety and procedures.
9. What should my camper bring with them to camp?

10. Can my child bring their electronics to camp?
Camp is an outdoor adventure experience and our goal is for all campers to be fully present in all camp activities. When electronics are present it takes away from a camper's desire to engage with their peers in games and activities. We ask that you don’t send your child with electronics! Additionally, the program is not responsible for lost, stolen, or broken electronics and by not having electronics present this possibility is avoided.
